How important is the coach in your choice of school?

The recruiting process is somewhat stressful, but it also has a fun component to it. You learn a lot about schools, their programs, facilities, coaches and teams. This leads us to the question of how important the coach is in your final decision to attend a school?

This is where it gets a little tricky - because what if the coach who recruited you leaves the school for another program? It happened to me!

This happened to a class of 13 early football commitments this year at Western Illinois and it shows a downside for the student-athlete in early commitments to a school or if the athlete specifically picks the school for a coach.

Although the coach is a factor in the decision - don't let it be the leading factor - make sure to look at the overall program, the academic offerings, the facilities and if you see yourself spending at least four successful years of your life there!
